Interpretation

Choong-Moo was the name given to the great Admiral Yi Sun Sin of the Yi Dynasty. He was reputed to have invented the first armoured battleship (Kobukson) in 1592 AD. The reason this pattern ends with a left hand attack is to symbolise his regrettable death, having no chance to show his unrestrained potentiality, checked by the forced reservation of his loyalty to the King.

  1. Move left foot to A into right L-stance, twin knifehand block.
  2. Move right foot to A, walking stance, execute high front inward knifehand strike with right hand, bring left hand palm outwards in front of forehead.
  3. Move right foot to B turning clockwise 180 degrees, left L-stance, middle knifehand guarding block.
  4. Move left foot to B, walking stance, high flat fingertip thrust.
  5. Move left foot to E turning 90 degrees anti-clockwise, right L-stance, middle knifehand guarding block.
  6. Turn to face F, forming left bending ready stance.
  7. Execute a middle side kick to F with right foot.
  8. Lower foot to F, right L-stance towards E, middle knifehand guarding block.
  9. Execute a flying side piercing kick towards E, taking one step, land in left L-stance, middle knifehand guarding block.
  10. Turn 270 degrees anti-clockwise to face D, move left foot forward into right L-stance, low left outer forearm block.
  11. Slip left foot into left walking stance, extend hands up as if to grab opponent’s head or neck.
  12. Right upward knee kick while pulling hands downwards.
  13. Lower right foot to left foot, then move left foot to C, turning anti-clockwise, forming left walking stance, at the same time execute a high front inward knifehand strike with the right reverse knifehand (left hand under right elbow joint).
  14. Execute a high section turning kick with the right foot to CE.
  15. Execute a middle reverse side kick to C with left foot (perform 14 & 15 in a fast motion).
  16. Lower left foot to C, left L-stance, turning to face D, middle forearm guarding block.
  17. Execute a middle turning kick with left foot to ED (at 45 degrees).
  18. Lower left foot to right foot, then move right foot to F, forming right fixed stance, U shape block.
  19. Jump and spin 360 degrees anti-clockwise, landing in left L-stance, middle knifehand guarding block.
  20. Step left foot forward, walking stance, execute a low upset fingertip thrust.
  21. Pull front foot back into right L-stance, high back fist strike with right hand towards E and left low outer forearm block towards F (performed simultaneously).
  22. Right foot to F, walking stance, middle straight fingertip thrust.
  23. Move left foot towards A, turning anti-clockwise, left walking stance, high double forearm block.
  24. Right foot to A, sitting stance towards F, execute a middle inward outer forearm block, same stance, high back fist strike to A.
  25. Execute a middle side kick to B with right foot.
  26. Execute a middle side kick to B with left foot.
  27. Lower left foot to B, left L-stance, facing A, execute middle X knifehand checking block.
  28. Move left foot to A, walking stance, twin palm upward block.
  29. Step turn into right walking stance, to face B, right outer forearm rising block.
  30. On the spot, same stance, middle reverse punch, left fist.
